It never ceases to how amaze me how forward-thinking the Germans were in their prosecution of the war. Had they had a little more attrition experience and better resource management, it boggles the mind to think about how the war may have ended.

Their military management wasn't bad, but sadly, in a dictatorship system where the government can (and does) butt in at a moment's notice, all bets are off.

Even in a republic the leaders can micromanage, a la Johnson/McNamara and too many times since. Just because we have the ability to comm to anywhere from the White House Situation Room doesn’t mean it’s the best idea.
