Not at all uncommon. In the 90s a storm exposed the wreck of the USS Narcissus, a Civil War tug boat off Egmont Key here in Tampa Bay. That site was investigated and subsequently became one of Florida's underwater preserves. The sea hides all sorts of history until major storms come through.
