I couldn't get through the story. Chelsea Manning never enlisted in the Army. Chelsea Manning didn't steal secrets. Chelsea Manning didn't get court martialed and put in prison. Bradley Manning did all those things. I care less about who he wants to be or believes himself to be.

Bradley Manning was convicted on 20 of 22 charges, among those being espionage, theft, and fraud. He is a traitor to his country and the men and women he served with. His name is Bradley Manning. He's a fraud.

The story goes into detail about Manning's character.. It's eye opening. It essentially shatters Manning's defense team on some of there claims that make Manning out to be mistreated and misunderstood.

I understand what the story is about. But, allowing the name change in this article actually changes the dynamic. An uninformed reader will think that the individual is female, when every single one of his actions was done as a male. That detail makes a difference. Again, there is no Chelsea Manning in the point of Bradley Manning's actions. I couldn't suffer through the article with the intellectual dishonesty that using his alter ego creates.

Really good article. This account along with the ones about Bergdahl's time in basic highlights the systematic failures that occurred in recruitment/basic training during the surge years. It blows my mind that individuals like these, who were clearly unfit for service, were time and again allowed to slip through the cracks just to fill a quota.
