One thing I absolutely can not stand is people thinking that that sexual harrasment was a part of USMC culture and its only recently been challenged due to the efforts of SJWs. I joined in 1980 and I can tell you the fastest way to have your teeth knocked down your throat by another Marine was to put your hands on or disrespect a female Marine.

PVT Richard May - Why would you hate to tell me that? Facts are facts,,, numbers don't lie. I simply told you what would happen in my time if someone was caught harassing a Woman Marine. I read through the studies by Rand. One thing that has happened across the board is that the services are attempting to remove the stigma of reporting assaults.

1stSgt Eugene Harless - I agree totally that facts are facts and would add that bad news doesn't get better with age. This is not a scorecard for services to compare each other with. You and I both know that although a lot of bad things happened while we were in, nobody that considered themselves a leader condoned or supported it. There will always be knuckleheads and they just get handled. Many were against the Women in Combat movement, and no service spoke out against it more than the USMC. They based it on the Rand study and others that showed it would degrade readiness and even cost lives. Nothing wrong with speaking the truth where it applies. When the marching orders were issued the USMC leaders fell in step and supported the effort. Unfortunately many in the lower echelon never accepted it. They coupled this with what they perceived as other "social engineering" efforts by the Obama administration and some of this may have surfaced in this recent effort to belittle women in the eyes of the misinformed. It was wrong to do this and although they now try to rationalize it by saying the women were willing participants, I don't buy it. Bad judgement on the part of women that provided the photos, but that's where it should have ended. Nobody that considers themselves a gentleman would participate in this. They should ask themselves if they would condone someone doing this to their sister, niece, cousin etc and if they arrive at the conclusion that they would still do it, then maybe Commandant Neller was correct by saying maybe they should not be a US Marine.

CWO3 (Join to see) - I have never been one to believe women had no place in combat; that's just garbage to my way of thinking. No, not every man is made for combat, just like not every woman is made for combat.
I have seen women outperform men - and I think that a lot of men hate that.
But what really needs to be done is once sexual harassment/assault/rape is reported, everyone involved is immediately taken out of the unit and a JAG officer takes over. Too many C.Os tried to sweep it under the rug so as not to give themselves a bad name; wrong move.
Even if the person told a priest or other religious figure, that person would then report it to JAG and let them handle it.
Also, every new enlistment personnel has to go through training to know what to do and what not to do.
Look, we're never going to stamp out sexual assault/harassment/rape - but we can make sure that when it happens, it is dealt with accordingly.
The sad part is, women have got to understand that filing a false report because she didn't get promoted is not going to be tolerated, either. Too many innocent men/women have had careers ended because of that.

I'm fine with women in combat as well, as long as it's done smart. Trying to force them into Infantry BN's and expecting them to keep up is not smart. That's programming the method and the women for failure. Using them in other ways, such as the USMC Female Engagement Teams (FET) has proven to work. I was just saying that maybe some of this is bounce-back from the WIC issue, but that has not been proven. They have identified hundreds of active and reserve USMC that subscribed to MU, so they are probably in for a lot of hurt, and deserve all of it.

The first advice I would give any female Marine is the same advice I gave my daughter and will give to my grand daughters. Do not send sexually explicit images, or allow sexual recordings to be taken of you. Don't trust any man that's not your husband with these types of images, or you will eventually find they are 'in-the-wild' and you can never take them back. Even husbands may have the lack of class to show them to someone, and if they should become an ex-husband or ex-boyfriend they may become part of the revenge-porn marketplace. It happens thousands of times per day. Don't be one of those stories. For the women that found themselves the unwitting victims of predatory voyeurism, I don't even know what could be said that would fix this. I hope that their perpetrators get caught and you get some justice. It is shameful that male Marines would treat female Marines this way. Sure, there is the normal-attraction stuff, without which our species would go extinct, but to hound them, denigrate them and spy on them and slander them, it is pretty disgusting. To these men: someday you may be a father of a female, or maybe you have a sister. Nothing will open your eyes to our dark side than having a female family member go through being treated like a porno mag by every guy in town, by having your loved one have to fight off unwanted advances and touching or worse by some guy who doesn't have discipline over his own base urges. One other advice ladies: alcohol drops inhibitions, making drunk men three times more aggressive and frankly dangerous. Really watch yourselves in those types of situations where alcohol is involved, and be mindful of your glass as some people may dump something in it. Also be aware of your alcohol consumption too. Not putting it back on you because you were drinking, but as a father and grandfather I can't express enough that not being in some of those compromising situations reduces your risk, and you really need to reduce that risk if you can, in situations where you have the option to reduce your risk. Often women, especially young women don't fully appreciate the level of risk that the men around you present. We are hard-wired to seek out every sexual opportunity that presents itself at a level far above the average female, which makes us dangerous. Yes, the men need to control themselves, you are not at fault when you are victimized. But the main thing is that you don't get victimized, right? Gone are the old days of brothers and fathers chaperoning the ladies to protect them, so you better be ready to protect yourself. Fathers out there too often these days frankly encourage their sons to revel in their 'exploits' and it adds to the perception that it is ok to take advantage of females. We need more honorable men to return to raising their sons to respect and cherish women; and to never raise your hand in violence to a woman, or to harm her emotionally. I know, old-fashioned...but my sons were taught that way. And one young man mistreated my daughter when she was 20, and I handled that situation personally. He never came back.

It never ceases to amaze me that in a service where the ability to follow orders and be self-disciplined, there is such a big problem with our military personnel being disciplined enough to do the right thing.

Looks like a bunch are going to be prosecuted. The UCMJ will handle it and I trust they will be given fair trials. The media and some in government are always quick to turn anything like this into a huge scandal, no matter what service it is. I don't like what these folks did, but I don't have all the facts to make a reasonable judgement. What really sucks is the 99 % of those in uniform that make great sacrifices daily vs. the few bad deeds that stain the honor of the rest.
