Defending against this would actually be fairly easy. RF guns are already available commercially to bring down single drones, making a slightly beefier RF array would be chump change for the DoD. Droves of drones would be easily detectable beforehand, or they would be launched from a ship or large aircraft... in which case the drones would be the least of our worries.

Perhaps a configuration like the heat wave or sound wave emitters?

It would basically look like a satellite antenna, set up to point and overpower any radio transmissions within however much determined range where it points. You would see nothing except for the swiveling of the dish, then a bunch of drones falling out of the sky. Or at least just maintaining direction and not able to receive any further remote directions while in range of the device.

You could set up one directional like stated above, or setup station that are omnidirectional at the price of range. Reactive vs static defense.
