Do the PMP if you want to do project management. I went to a PMP course, did PM for a few years and I hated every minute of it. I never got the cert and if I did, I wouldn't put it on a resume as a prospective employer might want me to do PM again.
PM can be value added to an organization but requires a person who is suited for it. Its like a battalion S3 job.
