While I would like to hope the process can be speeded up, I am glad DoD is putting immigrant enlistees under the microscope. I don't think that makes them second class people at all ... just verified first class non-citizens. People play with words ... but Janicijevic was NOT a US citizen.
Retired Army Lt. Col. Margaret Stock, who now specializes in military immigration legal issues, is FOS when she says “DoD has officially made all of the MAVNIs into second-class citizens who have been labeled ‘security threats’ because of their foreign birth.” DoD is attempting, rightly IMV, to ensure that non-citizens admitted into our band of brothers (and sisters) deserve to be there and don't pose a threat to their fellow soldiers.
