I saw this and shook my head.
We have 10% of the manpower we had during WWII, and over 400% more flag officers than we did during the same time.
But... we still recycle aluminum cans to buy parts for our small boats.

I'm amazed at how "quickly" an Admiral is promoted when it is written into law. Isn't it interesting how we're still waiting years for the laws written that affect our manpower, competency, and aging assets to be realized?

I love talking with folks in other services. "Oh, we dumped all of our XXXs because they were almost 15 years old!"
The Queen of the Fleet right now is the Smilax - commissioned in 1944.
Mention that to a squid and their heads explode!

I do believe the enlisted force needs to be increased and payed better, but I'll not begrudge an officer being advanced to make his compensation more in line with others who do parts of his job in the other branches. The others might be larger but they also have larger staffs to assist them. They also only have one statutory mission while the Coast Guard has eleven.
