Once again Liberal Ideology substitutes for fact. The Polish people have fought against tyranny their whole existence. But then again, why would you expect any one at the LA Times to understand that?

The history of Poland originates in the migrations of Slavs who established permanent settlements in the Polish lands during the Early Middle Ages.[citation needed] The first ruling dynasty, the Piasts, emerged by the 10th century AD. Duke Mieszko I (d. 992) is considered the de facto creator of the Polish state and is widely recognized for the widespread adoption of Western Christianity that followed his baptism in 966. Amen and not only that but look at how many times the Liberals in the past abandoned the Poles to be slaughtered openly. It should be no wonder there is a lack of trust.

Or maybe it is freedom loving Poles who have been run over by the Nazi's and the Soviets just in the last 75-80 years. Perhaps they are really focused on secure borders and their national identity because they have faced the murder of the blitzkrieg and the soul crushing despair of Soviet Communism. Their borders were erased as was their freedom. They watch thousands of Polish Jews take away to their death and then they lived under a soviet system where they had no freedom, could not speak, write or worship if the government didn't approve.
Perhaps their experience at the hands of tyranny have toughened them a bit. They are not from the decadent west that has enjoyed protection and freedom for centuries. The media is also unencumbered by the Polish experience. They write childlike headlines and stories trying to make them look like xenophobes and Nazi's rather than trying to walk a mile in their moccasins.

I just have to ask because this article has almost as many mistakes as the last one posted. If Lech Welsa is an enemy of the current government how can he possibly be best friends with the leader of the Political Party in the majority in Parliament? How does that dichotomy work exactly? At least this article did NOT refer to the government as "authortarian"......abuse of the term. Let Poland develop Democracy without the choking hands of Liberalism around it's neck please. I might remind everyone that Germany went through a period in the 50's where it had a right winger as Defense Minister that had Der Speigel Journalists arrested in a foreign country. You know what else? Munich's Airport is named after him (oh horror of horrors!!!) Amazing the authors of this article never mention that. Of course the article is more about promoting an idealogy than reporting facts.
