Because MCPO Roger Collins Senior officers get promoted when the 1st line of their FITREPS say "Saved the Navy $X Million dollars," instead of "Ensured the Navy met all readiness requirements." My 2 cents from way down the ladder....

That was a factor, even with a couple of my assignments in the Navy and even more predominant in my civilian career. I, personally, believe it has more to do with forcing the DOD to have to build more by the MIC and complicit politicians.

More like a typical show of force, to me. We've done this several times over the years, more recently in the Southwest Asian region.

I am not saying that we don't need to apply pressure to DPRK, but I sure hope that we have a plan for afterwords. As Navy history tells us with plenty of examples, we are overextended and maintenance and recovery periods are much less than they need to be...
