In the US, you don't have to kill to be a murderer

I don't think it is outdated at all. Being involved in a crime that results in a death gets you a murder charge. Whether you intended for someone to die should not enter into the discussion. The law of unforeseen consequences comes into play and the costs can be very high. Don't want to roll the dice? Don't be a criminal.
