Thank you Sir! I worked at the Camp Hansen, Okinawa Rifle Range in 1972 - 73. The island became the possession of Japan again on 15 May 1972 while I was there. That island literally changed overnight. I was at Camp Sukiran in 1960 - 61.

GySgt Lawrence D. Pool - Gunny I was there at Camp Hague in 1974 straight from Marine Corps Comm/Electronics Schools at MCB, 29 Palms, CA. I was with the 4th BN, 12th Marine Regiment at the time. Then did a stint with 3/12 at Camp Fuji and at the Philippines with RLT-4 for six months. After you left they had a World Expo there at Nagao I think. Anyway great shooting. When I returned to Okinawa I was a newly promoted Warrant Officer with my family. The Marine Corps changed my orders to reflect accompanied tour with dependents. I didn't complain just took my orders in stride. From 1986-1989 I was there with Division Comm Co, then 1st Tracked Amphibious Assault BN. at Camp Schwab. It was with Division Comm Co. I was asked by one of my Gunny's if I wanted to be the OIC for our Company's Shooting Team. I definitely jumped on this because Gunny Bauer who was a Vietnam veteran and a outstanding shooter himself who won the Rifle and Pistol Expert Gold and the Team Gold at Camp Pendleton. The Gunny taught this Marine Warrant Officer how to shoot both the rifle and pistol. If it wasn't for him I would've never know about the skills of shooting and the Matches of the Marine Corps. I salute you Gunny for an Outstanding Shooting.

Thank you again Sir! Interesting! I was the NCOIC of the School Range at the Stumps after Vietnam from Sep 68 to Feb 72. Were you there then? During my 1st tour on Okinawa (Apr 1960 - May 61), I was at Mt. Fuji twice and while on float aboard ship; was in and out of Subic Bay several times as Laos got started. We thought we might make a landing. Of all times, we had a recall late on New Years Eve to go back to the ship. There were some drunk Marines being chased down by the MPs. I will be posting some of my sea stories while on the Marine Corps Rifle Team in 1976 and77. I was the Interservice Service Rifle Long Range Champion and won the George R. Farr Trophy at the National Matches in 1976.

GySgt Lawrence D. Pool - Gunny, I was transferred from MCRD, San Diego, CA, to MCB, 29 Stumps in February of 1973. I was with the Marine Corps Comm/Elect Schools BN until I graduated from Ground Radio Repairman Course a year later in 1974. Then all of 12 Marines got orders to the Rock. My first FMFPAC duty was with the 12th Marine Regiment, 4th Bn. Then they cased the Battalion's Colors and I was transferred to 3rd Bn, 12th Marines. I was stationed at Camp Hague from Feb. 1974 till April, 1975. I was attached to RLT-4 for my last 6 months before heading back to Stateside. I was with 3/12 at Camp Fuji, Japan prior to the fires there in 1979. I humped to the Golden Buddha Statue over looking Kotimba. Also I had a chance to climb Mt. Fujiyama. Do you ever recall a Gunny by the name of Bauer, or a SSgt. By the name of Brian Wilson. I can't recall my Gunny's name. But I do know that he and SSgt. Brian Wilson were both Distinguished Shooters. Brian was well-known for his Skeet Shooting and the Gunny, as Team Coach for the West Coast Division Matches at Camp Pendleton when his team and himself took home the Golden Bear Trophy. I know some more Marine Corps Distinguished Shooters, but can't recall there names at the moment. It's been 23 years since I retired from the Marine Corps, and it just seems like yesterday don't it.

Only a bronze (rifle and pistol) but still proud.
I always wanted to continue, but work took precedence over shooting.
