Overview
Almost all Service members will have reactions after returning from deployment. These behaviors and feelings are normal, especially during the first weeks at home. Despite the challenges of reintegration, most Service members will successfully readjust with few problems. However, seeking solutions to problems is a sign of strength. Don't hesitate to take advantage of the resources that are available to you and your loved ones. Having knowledge, coping skills, and social support will positively influence your ability and attitude to handle the uncertainties post-deployment and better prepare you for the coming reintegration.
Solid Start
Solid Start is a program that helps support every Service member transitioning from service. Newly separated Service members can expect three calls from qualified Solid Start representatives over the first year of separation. VA will attempt to contact you several times around 90, 180 and 365 days post-separation, so make sure your contact information is up to date in eBenefits.

2018 Executive Order
Mental Health Resources for Transitioning Service Members
Regardless of where you served, how long you served, your discharge status, or your Service branch, we’re here for you. We know the first year of transition is critical for Service members and Veterans moving from the military to civilian life. To address these transition-related challenges, President Trump signed Executive Order 13822, “Supporting our Veterans During Their Transition from Uniformed Service to Civilian Life” on January 9, 2018.
As part of the Mental Health Executive Order, VA is providing seamless mental health resources to all eligible Service members and Veterans for at least one year after their discharge from military service. We are partnering with the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Veterans Service Organizations, Congress, and community organizations to make sure you have the right resources and the support you need, whenever and wherever you need it.
