My civilian boss once told me I was overthinking a problem and to just relax and do it. Somehow I think the writer is doing the same thing. Granted, poor leadership will sour anything, but let's consider options.
First, not everyone wants, or is suited for a military career. Second, not everyone wants to fly all their life, especially military flying. Third, not all military pilots choose an aviation career as civilians. Generally, military pilots are intelligent, adaptable individuals. Amongst my contemporaries who did not make a career out of the Corps are physicians, attorneys, investment experts, bankers, aircraft manufacturer pilots, the founder of FEDEX and Mission Barbeque and yes, commercial pilots. I can't understand why any of those Marine Corps aviators would want to give up the opportunity to deploy on a moments notice, stay away from home on scheduled deployments, face being dropped because you failed to be promoted in an up or out system, get to move your family every three years to sites that generally not garden spots, and do it all for less money. Not everyone gets the thrill out of putting on a uniform and living under a restrictive authoritative system that is the feds own petri dish for social experimentation when they see other opportunities available where they have the opportunity for dying of old age in bed, well off and satisfied with the life they lived.
