The apparently serious damage suffered by Bushehr is a blow to the IRIN's blue water capability.

According to Iranian media reports, the supply ship supported six of the 13 flotillas that have put to sea since April 2014. Its sister ship, Bandar Abbas , supported another three in the same period, but appears to have been out of action since December 2015, when it went into the IRIN's dry dock for repairs.

The larger supply ship, Kharg , has not been part of any flotillas since April 2014, leaving the IRIN reliant on its Hengam-class landing ships to support the other flotillas.
