Who needs the Arctic? Russia has more natural resources than it knows what to do with. China has already set its sights on the South China Sea floor which is eminently easier to develop than the Arctic Ocean floor. And the US is far from the bottom of its barrel of natural resources. Developing those on the Arctic Sea floor would be vastly more expensive than continuing to develop those under our feet. As a forward base for military operations, near space orbit seems far more practical than the Arctic, doesn't it?

Plot shipping lanes a travel o costs via arctic and the tradition routes, there is a reason that they searched so hard and long for a Northwest passage. It has even lead to the Canadian Government complaining about unauthorized military intrusion into their territory bu the US Coast guard. the to main players butting heads are the US and the Canadians then the Russians.

Don't pay attention to Al Gore and his followers. There are more polar bears now than when they started crying over the disappearing polar bears
