Is There a Gun Violence Problem in America? The Answer may surprise you.
After being a cop for over 35 years now teaching police recruits full time at a police academy and having been involved in several OIS (officer involved shootings) you would think that if anyone had seen all the violence that guns have caused in America and how bad the gun violence problem is, it would be me. You would think as a cop I should be against citizens having firearms, especially on their person, because it will make me more unsafe as a cop, right? If you thought along the lines of what the media keeps on shoving at us, I should be the number one advocate for more gun laws and stricter “gun control” to stop the rampant “gun violence sweeping America” as one paper put it. But there seems to be a problem, and it’s not “gun violence”.

NOT A GUN PROBLEM, BUT CRIMINAL WITH GUN PROBLEM!!! I'VE BEEN A POLICE OFFICER IN LAW ENFORCEMENT FOR ALMOST 40 YEARS, ONLY SHOT INDIVIDUALS IN THE LINE OF DUTY!! NEVER HAD TO PULL MY GUN UNLESS TAKING POLICE ACTION ON AND OFF DUTY AND I'M FROM DETROIT!!

I was a a cop after I retired from the Navy, and I live in Vermont! We have no permit requirement for CC, we have no permits for purchase, we have no license to carry. As a cop I never had any fear of the general armed public in Vermont. And just about every vehicle has a fire arm of some sort in it! By the way, many people are armed in Vermont, and we have one of the lowest crime rates in the Nation! We are a very rural state and hunting is a religion in Vermont and every armed citizen in Vermont knows how to shoot. I firmly believe that gun violence is a result of stringent gun control . Disarm the public and what do the bad guys fear? No one!

Thank you for your service Dennis, and yes Vermont is the original and longest standing right to carry state, yet no issues. Thank you for reminding me of that. Be safe brother.
