During a battle, it will hopefully have the effect of their fighters fighting to the death, allowing themselves to be captured, or just plain surrendering. None of these options help their cause, not even them fighting to the death, since there will be more casualties. Before and after battles, their fighters have to be reassessing their decision to join the group, especially since they started with wins, and perhaps thought they would continue winning, and now...not so much.

Recruiters have to be passionate about their cause, which they have less reasons to be passionate about now, and have benefits for the prospective fighters and I don't see any except the opportunity to die for their cause.
