Sounds like we need to expand our domination of Electronic Warfare. An RC Drone can be defeated with a hammer. You could either use a single-direction antenna to "dazzle" it at a distance, provided you see it coming. Or you could use an omnidirectional antenna for 360 protection, but we'll need systems the push more Watts of power to increase the protection radius out further. Some mods to our current CREW systems could mitigate some of this threat quickly.

SFC (Join to see) - I do agree with you, I do not like being behind the technical power curve either. The biggest problem is that is changes so much so fast and with new companies all the time it is harder and harder to keep up.

Looks like I have some reading to do this weekend. Being stuck in a TRADOC unit tends to blunt the edge. Thanks for the assistance.

Yes, potentially a big problem for squads and FOBs. Inexpensive, commercially available drones can be pre-programmed to follow a route based on GPS and visual references. Based on altitude & airspeed limits of inexpensive drones, they don't pose much of a danger to our pilots (they don't know where we are and they definitely can't chase us down), but there is still a real threat posed to dismounted ground forces.

Col Joseph Lenertz Thank you for your response. I can easily see a problem for troops on the ground. I didn't know that the inexpensive drones have come so far.

SSG Jacey R. - Yes, they are becoming pretty amazing. Check out the DJI Phantom 4, for example. The "Active Track" function allows you to place a small transceiver on yourself (or on anything else) and it will follow you (or whatever you've "tagged") automatically...no inputs needed. We need to keep working on defensive countermeasures. Some new cell phones can auto-detect drones nearby, but I'm not sure how good they'd be in the loud environment of a FOB or a convoy.

In a previous comment I made about the ISIS drones, treat them like a clay pigeon at a skeet shot, yell pull and blow it out of the air.
