Sun exposure doesn't always seem to be the issue though. I had a severe vitamin D deficiency while I was still in and the amount of sun I got during PT should have been sufficient to maintain normal levels let alone prevent a severe deficiency to the point of causing bone pain which was what I had.

Some people, based on skin type, absorb less sun. I've had a vitamin D deficiency while working nights. Being deficient has a lot of negative affects on the body and mind. The "winter blues" are also associated with low levels of D. And lets not forget, when outdoors today, we are told, "sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen." It's no wonder mental health has been declining since they started the sunscreen "trend".

Working 3rd shift(MP) and wearing sunscreen is what my own deficiency got blamed on. I no longer wear sunscreen unless I know I will burn. And I take a supplement now along with a multivitamin since certain other vitamins help it to be absorbed.
