The arrival of the first JASDF aircraft at Luke AFB comes a week after Lockheed Martin was awarded USD7.2 billion for Lot 10 production of 90 F-35A, F-35VB, and F-35C aircraft for US and international customers.
Taking into account an additional USD1.03 billion of long-lead contracts and USD1.5 billion for engines, the total Lot 10 value is approximately USD9.73 billion for 90 aircraft, which equates to a fly-away unit cost of about USD108 million. While this is not a strictly accurate way of determining unit cost as other items and services are included in the overall contract value, but it does provide a useful guide.
