The answer to your question is not found in this clip from Wikipedia, rather it can be found in his biography.
In short, he claims to be a born again believer although how that came about is not entirely clear.
According to those who know him, he has 'evolved' since his conversion and one of the ways that are apparent to them is through his change to a Christian genre and alignment with conservative thinking:
Pro-life, support for conservative politics and politicians, etc.
I don't know if he is doing this for publicity and the economy of producing contemporary Christian music or if it is a true reflection of authentic conversion. I will always give someone the benefit of the doubt until they prove themselves otherwise. So, I suppose your guess is as good as mine, my brother.

A convert? Who knows. If he is a true convert good for him. I've never really given the guy a second thought Senior Chief. He is Hollywood and the like. Anything Hollywood is pretty much trash in my book.
