Good article and with the continuation of the F-35 VTOL, Osprey, and new LCAC program multipurpose amphibs like this will be able to respond to most crisis.

LCDR (Join to see) they need to correct the landing gear issue on the 35 first (& who knows what else they'll find wrong with it after that...).

SSgt (Join to see) - I am not sure what you are referring to the The U.S. Marine Corps' F-35B aircraft reached initial operational capability (IOC) on July 31, 2015 one of the first variants to declare full world wide deployment capability. Just this month they permanently stationed a squadron, VMFA-121, in Japan. No mention of any landing gear issue when Lt. Col. J. T. Bardo, the commanding officer emerged from his aircraft.

LCDR (Join to see) - perhaps it's just the navy version that they found issues in the landng gear.

SSgt (Join to see) - I think you are right the C variant is still having some issues and I do remember reading about the gear. Just about every carrier based aircraft has had gear and underbelly issues.
