Great article. In an issue of the American Legion magazine there was a concern that many younger vets were not joining the American Legion. This is a great article to let younger vets know about these organizations and how they have fought for veteran rights.

This is such an important thing to do. I just became a Trustee 2 Year at my VFW Post and they were so revealed to have someone step up to help out. I know a lot of veterans see the VFW and other Service Organizations as just a bar but that is what the "old timers" wanted and it worked for them. If you want the Service Organizations to do the things veterans want today we have to first join and then take over the leadership so the guys running them now can go relax in the bar and we can change them. Some Posts are doing Yoga classes, biking events, picnics, BBQs and more. These can't be done without volunteers and younger veterans joining to bring in the money. Another thing I hear a lot is I never see them out in the community doing anything. And I tell them once again that we need younger veterans to join that can do the volunteering since the older veterans are loosing their ability to help with projects.

I am a Membership Chairman for our VFW Post. If anyone wants to join, I can sign you up and you’ll be able to transfer to your local Post. We need your help to keep the VFW strong.
