TONIGHT's Topic: "Timeless Lessons Continued!"
"The more things change, the more they remain the same."
This phrase, coined by French writer Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr, reminds us that the words penned by Solomon in Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 are still true today. "What has been, it is what will be, and what has been done, it is what will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one might say, “See this, it is new”? It has already existed for ages which were before us."
"Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
Sir Winston Churchill went on to say; "We must always look forward, but we have to understand our history in order to not repeat mistakes of the past. I have seen too many instances where people continue to pursue wrong courses of action because they do not take the time to think critically about what has happened in the past."
We are going to continue our discussion of "Timeless Lessons" from last week because we had barely scratched the surface when we ran out of time. Far from "progressing" as a society, we continue to face the same challenges that Daniel and his friends faced over 2,500 years ago.
