Much of the hysteria surrounding AI is based on science fiction. However, there is cause for concern. We have seen far too many examples of scientists driven by the desire to accomplish something simply because they can. Ethics be damned. Maybe, just maybe, the hysteria will force them to at least take time to demonstrate that they are proceeding in an ethical manner.
