Well, the Third Reich had a lot of MG-34's in surplus after its general introduction of the MG-42 to the German infantry. Another reason was that the Mg-42 had a faster cyclic rate of fire than the MG-34, and thus ate up ammo at a much faster clip.

I guess that's similar reason we don't use the m134 on the Abrams or Bradley's.
