It’s about time they get back to this type of training! When they push them thru basic training then tru their AIT training so they can get sent to the duty station of course they are going to lack structure and respect for their NCOs and Officers. It’s clear that this wasn’t going to work in the long run and hurt the standards of the military structure is typically about....discipline

These young kids coming in today with stress cards and all sorts of issues saying that a drill sergeant cannot get in their face because it will break their spirits or hurt their tiny egos. When that is what basic training WAS FOR. to break you down, then to rebuild you into a confident soldier.

Why change something that was not broke in the first place?

We got demolished every day because discipline was such an issue in our company. Our cadre were top notch, and knew how to make corrective training painful, even with the "new army" guidelines. What they couldn't do was break the defiant Pieces of shit that didn't deserve to become soldiers. There were many who graduated who I would not trust to guard a port-a-shitter down range.

First off, when did the APFT drop to a 50/50/50 requirement. It was 70/70/70 10 years ago. Bringing back qualifying with iron sights... when did this stop? Also explains why we have fat, out of shape privates coming to the unit that take 4 or 5 iterations to qualify. If we weren't getting smoked or doing area beautification, we were out on the slab doing D&C.

The lack of discipline also falls on leadership. There is a problem with toxic leaders and operating on the good ol boy system. It's hard to discipline subordinates when they see NCOs getting away with actions that should be punished under UCMJ but instead get promoted or an award. This is why the Army is breeding a generation of worthless NCOs. Then again, it could be just ARMEDCOM and MEDCOM in general that operates like this.

The APFT has always been a 50 standard for graduation of basic training. Then 60 for AIT and after. It has never been a 70 for a pass. Even when I was active duty infantry with the 82nd our battalion standard was above 70 in each event good to go, below 70 but above 60, remedial PT every evening but they couldn't flag you as you had passed army standards.

As far as discipline goes it isn't always leadership due to all the restrictions placed on the NCO's on what you can and can not do. Don't know if it is the same but in the old Infantry units if your an E2 and screwed up and an E3 told you to drop, you better do it because you didn't want it to reach your NCO's. By the time it reached them you probably had already received an ass kicking by the rest of your platoon.

I beg to differ, we had BCT recruits recycled if they did not meet the 70/70/70 standard. Our DS' pretty much reminded us daily at PT. Our BCT BN was also a pilot site for PRT vs. TRX for pt. That may have been the reason or the DS' were blowing smoke. Regardless, I thought BCT was easy 10 years ago and seeing the quality of soldiers being put out currently, just shows how lax it's become and I wonder how well discipline is enforced. It's definitely a challenge dealing with younger soldiers and getting creative in handling insubordination.

The drill sgts. or unit commanders wouldn't have to worry about getting "creative" in handling insubordination in blanket parties were brought back, the rifle butt to the gut for out of place comments, two on one pugil stick fighting demonstration volunteer, martial arts demonstration volunteer, live fire obstacle course. If you need more "creative" ideas, I have more for these useless pos's. How dare they pollute MY Army! When in basic training for Vietnam our drill instructors had little tolerance for a-holes and messed around with no one. Everything was about business, the business of killing-period. Everyone of you that's worth your salt, watch your six and don't let any of these lovers get behind you with a loaded weapon and a full mag!
