Latino Marine vet wrongfully held by ICE will get $190,000 from Grand Rapids

Basic due diligence would have prevented this, the kind of thing that happens every time someone is booked into jail/detention. That is pretty much inexcusable.
While $190k seems like a lot of money, the city must have figured that they had a bigger exposure to liability in order to settle for that amount.

They couldn't do basic due diligence to confirm his citizenship status before detaining him??? Maybe that police chief won't be so stupid next time--if he still has a job after all this shakes out.
