It is all they have... they are losing massive numbers of people from #WalkAway, people getting jobs and money in their wallets, all they have left is stirring the pot. Fear is a great motivator until people wise up, and then you lose them.

From the article:
“When our elected officials make generalized and inflammatory statements about our entire profession, without any information to back their position, it creates further hostility toward our officers and can damage the positive relationships with our residents that we have worked long and hard to establish,” he added.
This is true. Just like in the Military, one screw-up can overshadow a career of good work. The police in general, as a profession have had an uphill battle to (re)gain support from their communities through various Community Policing programs, public outreach, officer education/training, etc. Then these politician clowns come in and in one day, turn people against the police. The politicians don't have to live with the risk of being shot while eating their lunch, or just because they are who they are. They breeze in, set community-police relations back 50 years, and breeze out, without a care for the aftermath. I think the chiefs of police across the nation should enter a class-action lawsuit against Warren for slander, defamation, and reckless endangerment.
