Lawmakers introduce bill requiring military to use US-made shoes

Good intentions, bad idea

Funny they passed a new bill for this since it was already required by toe WW II era Berry Amendment that requires DOD to purchase only textiles manufactured in the United States. doesn't matter how much or how little textiles there are.

This is to little way to late. We lost the bulk of our shoe manufacturing jobs to foreign interests in the 80's. Textile industry in the 70's and most recently the bulk of the paper industry. The Buy American Act is misleading. If you pay attention to the buy American act list of authorized locations for material manufacturing it has places like Taiwan, Mexico and several Latin American locations on it so it's not the same as if it were the "buy United States " act. While it ensures products are purchased from US. friendly producers, it doesn't ensure the growth of US jobs or industry. Yet more political "smoke and mirrors".
