So once again, most of the shootings, the vast majority in Chicago's case are with hand guns. But what weapon is depicted in the story banner an assault rifle. Hence rifle equals gun violence.

The weapon in the picture is not an assault rifle.

LTC (Join to see) - Roger, good catch, no bayonet lug, still this type weapon or any long rifle/ carbine seldom show up in the violence inflicted in Chicago which was the real point in the thread and the press's tendency to depict "black rifles" in correlation to violence..

CSM Richard StCyr - Honestly, I was not even looking for a bayonet lug, although that would not really have any bearing. I don't know for a fact, and am merely guessing from the pictures background, but I would be willing to bet that none of those rifles are selective fire, which means they are not assault rifles. I think what you meant to say was assault weapons, which is a term made up by politicians to scare people. And, in the case of the rifles pictures, the absence of a bayonet lug would still not be important because two other criteria for an assault weapon are present, a collapsible stock and a pistol grip (two of four items are required, at least under the 1994 Assault Weapon Ban). Either way, I was just bustin' your balls...I know exactly what you meant. The media loves to stoke the fires of fear by making people believe that black rifles are to blame for gun violence, especially when they are used for a very small portion of all firearms related crime.

Considering the source, no wonder it is pushing a particular agenda. Indiana is not the problem. We have pretty free gun laws here in MO, but we somehow escape any blame.
The real blame lies in Illinois. Lawful owners are persecuted, whereas those who are already intent on breaking the law, do so at will knowing no one will fight back with equal force.
