Leonard Cohen recites “In Flanders Fields” by John McCrae | Legion Magazine

As I give poppy's to shoppers at a local grocery market each Veterans Day, I am saddened at how few know what they mean, what their significance is. Occasionally, an immigrant or visitor from Canada or Britain happens by and they are surprised to find me there with my bouquet of paper poppies. Frequently, they are wearing elegant felt ones they were given at home and kept over the years to be worn on this day. Sad that our schools now teach our children to despise our history so that they will despise our nation, so that they can reinvent it in the mold of socialist utopias that never existed. Well may they despise me too for fighting back, telling my stories and teaching their students to honor America.
