I had this 1SG (now CSM) that embodied the Mentoring SNCO. If you were incorrect, he not only corrected your knowledge, but would also tell you where to find the correct information. Always had time for the Joes. He was the most respected man in the unit. He was the reason why the unit held together. He was the glue, brick and mortar.

100% accurate. Get out, know your Soldiers, know how to address them, know whats important and what really isn't.
Does perfect grass make a combat effective unit? No. Effective leadership with quality training and high morale does.
