Well, it's been a while (Aug 93), but when I started at the USPS we had these machines that we had started to check every night. They had a ledge under the top that mail would fall on. The first time we checked there was mail that had been there for years.

Sometimes the LSM is not checked by the operator. Supervision should be checking as well. I worked at the Plant and mistakes do happen.

Well, seeing that the Nashville Processing and Distribution Center being one of the smallest centers, canceled over four million stamped pieces of mail. That's just mail with stamps it doesn't count business reply mail that doesn't get canceled. It happen on the 2nd of Jan.

Pretty interesting story, will Guineas list this as the longest it took to deliver a letter?

I worked as a letter carrier and as management. A joke that was told to me by a senior carrier. Hey, I am just getting around to those 1974 Christmas cards...this is in 2003
