I love 2Lt's. There are all squishy and gooey when you first get them, but after a while, after a lot of hard work and a little luck, you may end up with something worthwhile.

Its a little tougher when they get to Capt and they never had the benefit of working with a good NCO when they were younger officers. Awhile back my CC assigned me to "fix" a young Capt. He was an Academy graduate too which made it a worthwhile challenge. The CC was a mustang so he had a good understanding of how the Capt was being perceived by the troops and what leadership style works best.
