“Are you on LinkedIn … you HAVE to be on LinkedIn!”
If you are transitioning from the military any time in the next few years, you are probably getting tired of hearing this. Everyone from your career counselor to the neighbor down the street has let you know that LinkedIn is the place to be as a job seeker. So you establish an account. That’s all there is to it, right?
Unfortunately, it is not quite that simple. Your well-meaning advisors are correct in that LinkedIn is a very powerful tool for a job seeker. In a previous post we talked about ways to use Social Media to Advertise “You”; this post will also help you with the LinkedIn strategies we are about to discuss.

I found my current position on Linked in and it has been a fantastic position so far

I think it is a great way to learn about companies you are interested in as well. Intelligence on the ground.

Good post, Sir. I think we also need to start mentioning the free training from LinkedIn's Lynda.com for Premium (read Veteran's). It's been very beneficial for me lately.

I would agree. I know veterans are eligible for the free premium accounts (my brother who also served pointed me to it) and that is a great bonus.
