Local man builds special motorcycle to honor veterans

In addition to the traditional Memorial Day services, a Colorado man is spending part of his weekend working on a a different kind of tribute to vest inside his garage.

Roy Martin has been building motorcycles for 22 years, and he recently took on a special project with a patriotic twist.

“It’s moving and I enjoy doing it,” Martin said.

The bike he is currently building features many nods to the military, such as an exhaust pipe that looks like a very distinctive gun barrel.

“Even though it looks like a Gatling Gun, it’s still a performance pipe," Martin said. "These were made here locally.”

Martin says other local fabricators came up with similar accents. There's a headlight that resembles a torpedo and he even found a way to repurpose some actual military ammo boxes.

“I turned them into saddle bags," Martin said. “I think the veterans would appreciate that.”

Roy says that appreciation is all part of his goal. It's his small way of returning the favor.
