AFJROTC INSTRUCTOR
BOLINGBROOK HIGH SCHOOL

VACANCY: The Valley View School District is seeking an individual to fill a full time AFJROTC Instructor position. This position reports to the principal and assistant principals.

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for teaching the JROTC curriculum while supervising student co-curricular activities and Cadet Corp operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Teaches and supervises JROTC military science and leadership laboratory curriculum
Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and the personal growth of students
Evaluate student progress, diagnoses individual learning problems, and initiates corrective action, as appropriate
Motivates and encourages students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a foundation for becoming responsible citizens
Organizes, supervises, and participates in student co-curricular activities and guides Cadet Corp operations
Performs administrative duties required by the military service branch directives.
Maintains supply accountability as required by the military service branch directives.
Performs JROTC instructor duties in accord with the military service branch directives.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Meets the Military Service Branch’s qualifications for JROTC Instructor duty.
Nominated for the position by the Military Service Branch JROTC program headquarters.
Has a valid JROTC Instructor Certification from the military service branch.
Possess the initiative to follow through with assigned tasks
Show exemplary leadership and team-building skills
Possess effective written and verbal communication skills
Has previous work experience at the high school level (Preferred)
Is competent in maintaining the safety of students
Good health and character – Physical and Negative TB test required


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Work is normally performed in a school/classroom environment where unusual temperature, noise, and hazards are relatively nonexistent. Field trips away from school may require occasional work. Must have the ability to walk, sit, bend, and stand on feet for the majority of the work schedule and lift up to 50 lbs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The terms of employment and salary will be in accordance with the School District – Military Service Contract for the JROTC program. Salary changes are automatic for active duty pay increases and the collective bargaining agreement between the Valley View Council and the Board of Education.

EVALUATION: Evaluation of job performance will be in accordance with the Military Service Branch directives, and the collective bargaining agreement between the Valley View Council and the Board of Education.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The work year for this position is 185 days. The hourly rate is paid in accordance with the current supportive staff salary schedule. The district offers excellent fringe benefits including health, dental and life insurance.
