The FTC recently reached a settlement with a pair of Youtubers who were showing themselves winning big in an online gambling site, claiming they had just found the site, and were ONLY lucky players; suggesting their viewers (many were underage kids) patron the site. In actuality they were the undisclosed owners and administrators of the site, and behind the scenes of their stealth advertisement videos, they were rigging the spins for significantly higher than usual win percentages than normal players would ever get. Another viewer did research on the business, and found the Youtubers' names registered to the company; exposing them and causing lawsuits and subsequent FTC involvement. According to the article, this Youtube incident was the first Social Media based case the FTC has had to handle.

Here is a video that covers a lot of what happened with that as well, showing the video evidence of their deception and everything. It's amazing. It's based on the computer game called, Counter-Strike Global Offensive.

I am bnot even sure that the cause for action the FTC sites even exists. If so then all the product placement on TV would be illegal also.

To me, shouldn't we assume that any post by a "celebrity" (and I use that term loosely - I'm looking at you Lohan) be considered a sponsored post and they are getting paid? Pretty sure the FTC has better things to do than sit around cruising Instagram all day...

I doubt the FTC cruises Instagram all day. However, there are millions of people around the world that do, and are waiting for the opportunity to report someone.
