The excavation of Glacier Girl was documented in an episode of The History Channel's "Mega Movers" series, titled "Extreme Aircraft Recovery".

This would be a great rescue. I wonder how much it would cost to recover the plane?

TSgt David L. - I don’t remember if they mentioned a price either. But I do know they had to melt holes down to the wreckage, take the plane apart, and drag the pieces back to the surface to be shipped off.

PFC (Join to see) - That I remember. Pretty interesting to burn through the ice to recover these relics. The whole story was interesting.

TSgt David L. - the process was well worth it though. ‘Glacier Girl’ can now grace the skies with its historic story and perhaps take its place alongside its squad mate once again. I will say that restorations can take a lot of money and time and aircraft such as the P-51 can cost a million. Heck, a B-25 on an aircraft sale sight goes for 1,400,000. I actually got the privilege to see a P-51 red tail, B-17, B-25, a Lakota observation plane, and a TBM Avenger at an airshow.
