And if they don't have the funds to fix the potholes, where are they finding $45,000/mile to paint streets white? And... Well, let me tell you a story. Before I enlisted, sometime in the early 1960s, someone had the bright idea to color code highway lanes to help people follow routes to their destinations. Actually, it wasn't such a bad idea in those pre-GPS days. However, after paving an intersection with red asphalt to test color durability, a strange thing happened. Black streaks began appearing. Then more black streaks. In a few weeks, the black streaks dominated the red asphalt. In a few months the whole intersection was black. The entire surface was overlaid with black streaks. Yes, as soon as we kids got ahold of it, we began "burning rubber".
