I was a recruiting squadron commander and I remember looking parents in the eye and telling them we would take care of their kids when they handed them over to us. I told them we would take them from boys and girls and make them responsible men and women by giving them the best possible training, equipment, and leadership this nation has to offer. When the scandals broke out at AF basic training about Training Instructors abusing cadets it literally broke my heart that the very ones we trust and put in a position of authority over new enlistees abused that trust and broke the bond between us and our nation. There is a line between aggressive training, meeting the mission and preparing our warriors and this jackwagon crossed it by mistreating enlistees and ultimately causing the death of one. Because of his actions the second and third order effects means he now he put his family in jeopardy for the rest of their life financially. I feel sorry for his family because now they get nothing...no retirement, not medical, no GI Bill transfers etc. They will suffer just like these enlistees did and that isn't right. The sins of the father shouldn't reflect on the family...IMHO. But that is the law.
