Good explanation of how the Marine Corps selects Col and Lt Col for open Command slots. Expect other Services are similar, seems we have had a few naughty officers get relieved lately in all the Services. Semper Fi.

Air Force is very similar... I'm in a command position and had to go through a pretty rigorous selection process looking at history of performance, completion of the right jobs, command recommendations and demonstrated leadership.
Very challenging duty (especially in this environment) but also one of the most rewarding.
