How?! Dry fire means no ammo at all. Not even blanks. Rounds shouldn't have even been issued at this point!
Ordinarily I'm not big on command lynchings, but if a Commander ordered that live rounds be distributed before a dry fire exercise, he does actually need to be fired.
Any senior NCO could have told you how bad an idea that is...

Words fail me. But where the hell were the Lt.s and the NCOs brains who went along with this??? When weapons came out, I always checked weapons and magazines.
