Chartered civilian airline or not, we traveled with weapons without issue. I guarantee every single one of those Marines was pissed off and swearing with every swing of those hammers.

Sgt I have you ever heard of this happening before? I was in from 85-89 and did not see action, so this is why I am asking if maybe someting changed since I got out? I agree most of the guys I served with would have NEVER wanted to do what these Marines were ordered to do! I know they were ordered because like you said they would have never done it willingly!

I flew from Okinawa to Australia with the entire Stinger Battery carrying rifles, no problems. And of course there are protocols for rendering everything inoperable, from weapons to vehicles. But telling an embassy MSG detail that they not only have to abandon their post, but then destroy their personal weapons which they had no problem evacuating with? No good reason for that.

Did the Marines do the right thing?? Lessee no functional weapons; 'all personal and crew-served weapons had been rendered inoperable". Yeah I think they did the right thing.

Duh. What were they supposed to do, service the weapons and leave them all nice and shiny ready for whoever takes over the building?
