If you can leave for a year you are nonessential. This only makes the slots held by women or child bearing years less usable and ready for any sort of deployment. In a time of lean budgets and reducing troop levels this is more absurdity added to the mix.
Here is the truth. If you are a woman that wants to have children perhaps the Marine Corps is not a good career choice. You are only putting more burden on those that have to cover for your work/duty/deployments. The truth hurts sometimes but there it is.

I one hundred percent agree my drill sergeants had a saying “ if the army wanted you to have a child or wife they would have issued you one!! “ once you raise your right hand and quote your oath you are no longer an individual you are a soldier and you belong to the military till you ETS!! This meaning you must meet deploy ability at all times!!!

The maternity leave keeps growing and no matter how long they make it, the moms still have a tough decision to make. The longer they make it the harder it will be for them to assimilate back into their units.
