"Glock leg" is operator error. Most of the time it happens when drawing or re-holstering the weapon from a concealed carry holster improperly. Most of the stories you hear are nothing more than urban legends, and the one solid documented incident involved a drawstring from the guy's jacket getting caught inside of his trigger well after he drew his pistol. The weapon discharged as he was bringing his weapon up.

MARSOC was the last SOCOM unit to ditch the M1911 as a standard issued pistol. They chose a modernized version and it performed poorly overall when compared to the Glock and even the M9. Its core design is just outdated and not suited for modern shooting techniques. That's why you only saw mostly new members of the unit ever drawing them out of the arms room.

Colt was going to be contracted to make 45s for MARSOC, but there was a nasty flaw in the frame that would make it crack long before it was supposed to be worn out. Of course, at this point in time Colt is barely a shadow of what they used to be. You're paying for the brand name as opposed to quality to go with it.

the .45's they were looking at were double stack models... but the (i have to be Nice Here) were dis-allowed because it did not meat the "NATO" standard... 9mm for Sidearm...
had it been Me... I would have gone with a Paraordance 14/.45 or the EAA Witness .45
Both made in America...
