Rick Jones wrote the book on being a sidekick. Like, literally, in the Marvel Comics, Rick Jones wrote a book about being a sidekick. He would know what it’s like, as a sidekick he really got around. First appearing as the kid who doesn’t know what a “DANGER DO NOT ENTER” sign means and being saved from Gamma radiation by one Doctor Bruce Banner, Jones has made a career out of some of being second banana to some of Marvel’s most powerful. His Teen Brigade was accidentally key in forming the Avengers, he took over the role and title of Bucky for Captain America, and even served as a sidekick to two different Captain Marvels. Technically speaking, Rick Jones is already in the MCU with his name appearing in relation to the Hulk in both The Incredible Hulk and The Avengers. Now, though, he’s set to make his debut during Phase IV of the MCU, but what role will he play? Having touched so many parts of the Marvel Universe he could be anywhere. As the Hacker Whisperer unveiling a Hydra plot to Falcon and the Winter Soldier? Helping Carol Danvers fight the Kree-Skrull war? Assisting Jennifer Walters, the She Hulk on Disney+? Maybe we’ll even see his transformation to A-Bomb, a gamma monster of his own. With all those possibilities Rick Jones could end up being as important to Phase IV as he was to the early part of the Marvel Universe. Let’s take a look at how he fits in.
