This is disturbing both because of the loss of life and because of all of the work that we put into stabilizing that nation. I lost good friends when I served there in 2006-2007, working with the Afghan Army and Police. In 2009, I was there again with a unit that was supporting the surge of US forces that looked like it was starting to turn the negative tide there. Now, all of our work seems to be going down the drain. :-(

Lets not insult the memory of the civilians killed in this tragedy as many were also Muslim who don't believe in violence. Ramadan continue to have a recent history of violent attacks by radicals against foreigners in their country.

MAJ James Woods no insult intended. Just pointing out what I've read from people that have come from that area. My sister actually taught in Abu Dhabi for a few years & they were generally told not to travel outside of the country during this time as it was "just safer" for them.

SSgt (Join to see) - From one of many that has been in Iraq and Afghanistan during Ramadan, those of true Islamic faith I've met in the communities and in security forces didn't condone violence nor preached it as acceptable. There's three sides for every tragedy: the radicals, the military, and the victims.

Just like Christians used religion to kill and enslave people (I am Christian by the way, but stick to the bible as God's inspired word), and use religion to try to influence politics (although New Testament Christians were not politically active), there are some in every faith that will misunderstand and misuse their faith.
